In World of Warcraft, we regularly experience larger content patches (such as the current WoW Patch 8.3) as well as smaller intermediate patches and hotfixes. Even though they all differ in scope, they have one thing in common: data mining of future information.
Today, we'll use the Pearl of the Abyss to show you why you should always keep a watchful eye on the dataminers' material (via WoWHead).
The Pearl of the Abyss is not available in the game
The Pearl of the Abyss is understood - in theory - as a toy, which was added in WoW (buy now 14,99 € ) Patch 8.2. Dataminers had read this from the game files in June 2019.
A little later, said Gegestand even appeared in the official patch notes. However, since September 2019, no one has been able to find said item - not even the Reddit or "Secret Finding Discord" treasure hunters, who are always able to find it under normal circumstances.
Lead Rewards Designer Russ Petersen now explained via Twitter why this is the case:"The Pearl of the Abyss was never available to players. I'm not sure why it even showed up in the September 2019 hotfix patch notes, as it was removed from the game in June [2019]. Sorry for the confusion."
Senior Game Designer Jeremy Feasel also confirmed via Twitter that the Pearl of the Abyss had always been a placeholder item - which simply never made it to a "real item."
